The Five Bits (Sept.4-10): Deathstroke, Doctor Who, Legion, Rebels, and The Force Awakens

Another slow news week. Let's see what we got...

1.  Deathstroke Casting!

Art by BossLogic

Well, that was fast.

Joe Manganiello has officially been cast as Deathstroke in the Batman solo film.

As you can probably tell from the artwork above, he certainly looks the part. And it's always cool to see an actor who fans have been lobbying to get a certain role have their wishes granted, so this casting gets my thumbs-up.

There's no confirmation on if he'll cameo in Justice League. I don't think I'd want him to either. That movie looks busy enough.

2. A Lost Doctor Who Story is Re-Animated

GET IT?! Ok, let me explain...

As many Who fans know, a large portion of episodes from the William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton eras were destroyed by the BBC in the 70's. Some efforts to reclaim the lost stories have turned out fruitful, like this one.

The BBC is set to release an animated remake of Troughton's debut story "The Power of the Daleks," which sees the Doctor, along with companions Ben and Polly, take on Daleks on the planet Vulcan. No, not that Vulcan.

The remade story will be released on DVD in November, aka Doctor Who's 53rd anniversary.

3.  Legion Gets Some Promos

The series doesn't debut until early next year, but we've already got two new promos for Legion.

Neither reveal an awful lot about what the heck is going on, but both do a great job at peaking my interest for the series.

Remember when I first reported on this and said I'd have to see some of it to get properly excited? Consider me excited.

4.  Bo-Katan Returns!

Actress Katee Sackhoff has revealed that she is returning to voice the Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan in the third season of Star Wars Rebels.

For the non-Clone Wars watchers, Bo-Katan made her debut in the fourth season of the series in a very minor role, before going on to play a major one in a Season 5 story arc. She's the lieutenant to Deathwatch leader Pre Viszla, and just an all around badass gal.

Her return to Rebels makes sense, considering how Mandalorians will apparently play a larger role in the new season. Is she Sabine's mother? I mean, probably not but, hey, anything can happen.

5.  A VFX Reel For The Force Awakens

Last but not least, Industrial Light and Magic released a visual effects breakdown video for their work on The Force Awakens. It's plain awesome if you love some movie magic.
