Hey.
1. Class Premiere Details Revealed!
The Doctor Who spin-off Class finally has a premiere date of October 22, and Peter Capaldi will indeed return as the Doctor in the first episode. That's pretty cool.
Alright, look...I'm not totally keen on Class. Capaldi's involvement, and the fact that, you know,it's a Doctor Who spin-off help a bit, but the premise sounds generic and the hyping up of it being a Young Adult-aimed series really gets me skeptical. It just feels like a waste of a Who spin-off. I'd rather see a Paternoster Gang series, or an Eighth Doctor miniseries.
All that being said, I'll still give the show a shot. Definitely. I have a feeling it can pull the rug out from under me. In a good way. And not literally. That would hurt.
2. Is Frank Castle Coming to Agents of SHIELD?
This isn't so much an actual news story as it is a really tasty rumour. Just bear that in mind.
At the world premiere of Agents of SHIELD's fourth season premiere, Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb brought the creator of Robbie Reyes and Gerry Conway, aka the creator of The Punisher, on stage and hinted that why he brought them both on stage would make sense later in the season.
So...could The Punisher make an appearance on SHIELD? I think having him appear would really make things interesting. A very grounded character in a not-so-grounded situation. I'd love to see him interact with Ghost Rider, seeing as they have similar agendas. But, right now, just take this with a pinch of salt.
3. Heroes for Hire in Luke Cage Season 2?
The first season of Luke Cage is out this Friday (Yeee, boy!), but showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker has already started talking about what the inevitable second season might bring.
Though he doesn't outright confirm or deny anything, Coker hinted at the possibility of having Iron Fist in the second season in an interview with Decider.
In the comics, Cage and Iron Fist have a little business called Heroes for Hire, which I guess is self-explanatory. If Mike Colter and Finn Jones have good chemistry in The Defenders, then
I'd be game for Danny to have a role in Luke Cage Season 2. But it's
still way too early to get any hopes up or anything, so we'll have to wait and
see how Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders all turn out
first.
4. Sam Neill is in Thor: Ragnarok
Taika Waitit and Sam Neill have reunited after their collaboration on Hunt for the Wilderpeople (a film I highly recommend... *wink*) for Thor: Ragnarok.
Neill revealed his involvement in a recent interview, but stopped short of revealing any other details. So we don't know who he's playing or how big his role is. It could be just a cameo for all we know.
As long as we get an onscreen reunion between him and Jeff Goldblum (playing the Grandmaster) I'll be a happy camper.
5. Passengers Trailer
Lastly, we got a trailer for December's sci-fi romance film Passengers, starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence.
Passengers takes place on a spaceship bound for a new home planet for humanity. Two of the passengers on board are mysteriously awakened from their 120-year cryo-frozen slumber 90 years too early. Cue drama, romance, 'splosions, chemistry, yadda yadda yadda...
It's almost a tradition now that we get a high-profile science-fiction film every fall/winter. Gravity, Interstellar, The Martian, and now Passengers. It certainly looks interesting, and who can't not have their interests piqued by the Pratt-Lawrence pairing? But I feel like it could potentially stumble into the melodramatic, over-serious, YA-level romance/fantasy genre. An oddly specific genre, much maligned by me. So...I'm hesitantly looking forward to this.
