Fun stuff, this week. Fun stuff.
1. Superman's Coming to Supergirl
So I'm half-way through the first season of Supergirl. It's fun, but has its flaws, one of them being how the show seems to go out of its way to constantly name-drop the Man of Steel but not show him. It's very annoying.
Luckily, that'll change with Supergirl's second season premiere, since Superman will indeed show up. All of him. Not just his boot, hand, back or silhouette. We'll get to see his face.
It's pretty exciting, and I'm interested in learning who they cast. Tom Welling, who played Clark on the prequel series Smallville, is apparently a fan-favourite.
Supergirl Season 2 premieres in the fall on the CW.
2. Legends of Tomorrow Gets a New Vixen
On the topic of DC shows, Legends of Tomorrow is welcoming Vixen aboard the Waverider next season...but she isn't played by Megalyn Echikunwoke (as seen above). Instead, a new actress will be cast as an older incarnation of Vixen.
Confused? In a nutshell, Vixen's powers come from a totem which has been passed down through generations, which implies there has been more than one Vixen before Mari McCabe. Makes sense? Yay!
The reason for the recast is because Echikunwoke (Serious talk: I am indeed copying and pasting her last name because it's a pain to type out) has a film shoot coming up, so she won't be available. This makes allows us to get more Vixen while not ruling out a return from Echikunwoke, which is great.
The second season of Legends also premieres in the fall also on the CW,
3. John Boyegs Joins Pacific Rim 2
Everyone's favourite turncoat stormtrooper is going to be piloting a Jaeger very soon.
Yep. John Boyega has joined the cast of Pacific Rim 2 as the son of Idris Elba's character from the first film aka the guy who really wanted to "cancel the apocalypse!!"
Pacific Rim 2 is expected for release in 2018.
4. Williams and Silvestri Do What They Do Best
Some more news about film scores. Because I'm a film score nerd.
First, John Williams is confirmed to be composing the score for two upcoming Spielberg projects: Indians Jones 5 and Ready Player One. Hang on! It gets better! Williams has also said he would love to return to score Star Wars Episode VIII if he is able. Yes, John. Yes, please.
Meanwhile, on the Marvel side of things, Alan Silvestri will be returning to the MCU to compose the score for both Infinity War films. Silvestri did the music for Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, and both scores were fantastic, so this is also great news. I can't wait to hear that Avengers theme, in its full glory, again.
5. LEGO Dimensions Continues to Mock Me For Not Having the Money to Buy It.
It's E3 this week, which means video game news coming out the wazoo. The first bit of news to catch my attention was the announcement that LEGO Dimensions will be adding more content this year, with levels, vehicles and characters from *takes deep breath* Adventure Time, Harry Potter, fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,Mission: Impossible, the Ghostbusters reboot, Gremlins, The A-Team, Sonic the Hedgehog, Teen Titans, Beetlejuice, Knight Rider, The Powerpuff Girls, ET, The Goonies, and The LEGO Batman Movie. Sheesh.
They also released this trailer that showcases all the new schtuff:
It's too bad I don't have the hundreds of dollars I'd need to get the full experience of this game.
Meh.
