The Centurion Circle Catch-up Part 1: "Agents of SHIELD" (Season 3, Episodes 14-17)

I HAVE RETURNED!!!!

Yep, it was a busy last few weeks of school, but at last I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainsi- no wait now I'm quoting Lord of the Rings. But, yeah, I'm back, so it's time for me to play catch-up and type up some quick reviews.

First up, Agents of SHIELD, which has had a pretty eventful, and overall pretty great, last few weeks.

"Watchdogs" (Season 3, Episode 14)

"Watchdogs" was good, but not great. The focus on Mack was a good next step after the events of "Parting Shot," but I felt like his arc with his brother could have been better. When I realised Reuben didn't know about his bro's SHIELDing, it was obvious he was going to find out later, which he did. The friction between the two partway through also felt forced, but I liked watching the two when they were seeing eye to eye. Why couldn't that have been throughout the whole episode?

I loved not just seeing Blake back, but also seeing Blake back as a villain. We hadn't seen him in 2 years, and just having him reappear would've been a wasted opportunity. Luckily, that wasn't the case, and his 2 year absence was integrated into his reason for turning his back on SHIELD. The episode's ending seemed like we would be seeing more of good ol' Felix, but we haven't seen him since. The season's not over yet, so maybe he and the Watchdogs will pop up again soon.

Rating: 7.7/10 SHOTGUN AXES!!

"Spacetime" (Season 3, Episode 15)

"Spacetime" was one of the stronger outings SHIELD has given us this season. Even without the whole premonition thing with Daisy, there's still some awesome stuff to chew on. There was Malick and Hive terrorising those poor board members, the team learning about Ward's "survival," Malick getting some action with that robo-apparatus, May and Andrew/Lash's last(?) conversation (though Andrew's sudden appearance felt kind out of place with so much other stuff going on), Charles' tragic backstory and death, and that infinitely entertaining scene with Daisy and the team helping May prepare for her mission.

If you'd talked to me about it after it first aired, I'd tell you it was the best episode of the season so far.

Until "The Team" came along...

Rating: 9.2/10 really confusing explanations of time and stuff by Fitz

"Paradise Lost" (Season 3, Episode 16)

Getting a big peek into Malick's past was the best part of "Paradise Lost." What made it even better was seeing the decision he made rear its ugly head (literally) in the form of Hive. That moment where Malick's younger brother "spoke" through Hive was seriously spine-chilling, thanks to Brett Dalton. Did I mention how much he is nailing this role?

The rest of the episode wasn't bad either. The May vs. Giyera fight was fun, but what fight scene with May isn't? Daisy and Lincoln's little adventure also had its moments, like Daisy blowing up all those landmines and the reveal of that Kree orb that isn't unlike the one from Guardians of the Galaxy. Could an Infinity Stone be locked away inside that one too? Probably not, but I can dream!

Rating: 8.9/10 kisses of death

"The Team" (Season 3, Episode 17)

Wow. Where do I start? "The Team" was an unexpected masterpiece. I mean, I totally thought most of the episode would focus on the Secret Warriors rescuing the rest of the team. But, nope. That was all done before the first commercial break. After that, it was a game of "whodunnit?" or "whoispossessedbyHive?"

Much like last season's "Scars," this episode played with and subverted my expectations as to who might be the enthralled team member. Everyone except Daisy seemed like possible candidates, and, whaddayaknow? It's Daisy. The Lincoln fake-out seemed plausible, but too easy, which made the Daisy reveal that much more satisfying.

What also made "The Team" oh so fantastic was the sense that it will have lasting consequences on the show and its characters. Not only are the Secret Warriors already disbanded, but now Malick's dead and Daisy's "betrayal" should shake everyone else to their core.

Oh, and Fitz and Simmons are an item now, 'Bout time.

Rating: 9.8/10 gross brain surgeries

Up next, I catch up on The Flash

This week on SHIELD, though, Fitz and Simmons are apparently lookin' for a way to stop Hive...
