The Flash and Arrow have the next three weeks off, so this week it's the "Legends Single Feature," I guess.
"Marooned" was an obvious bottle episode of Legends of Tomorrow, but, luckily, it was one of the more engaging episodes yet, thanks to Heatwave.
The new-found friction between Snart and Rory was the highlight of the episode. The development these two, especially Rory, have gotten on Legends is more than they have, and would have, on Flash. I mean, the fallout between the two was almost heartbreaking. And that final scene? Sheesh. Obviously, Rory isn't dead, but it was still tense moment to end the episode on Snart unleashing his ice gun on his now-former partner.
The show seems to be going out of its way to prove that Rip is a pretty incompetent captain. First he lies to his crew, then there was his stubbornness last week, now he walks into a trap despite the warnings of his crew. Usually, I wouldn't mind or care, but this is happening week after week. I want Rip to actually do something right or smart for once. Despite this, Rip still got some moments to shine. Arthur Darvill was great in the opening scene where Rip is replaying a message from his family, and the flashbacks gave some insight into his Time Master past and his forbidden love. Also, Rip and Rory's argument in the brig was pretty intense.
And, of course, because this is a CW show, there was some romance thrown in. The scenes with Snart and Sara were actually really interesting. Sara revealed to Snart what dying felt like to her, which was great because it's part of what I wanted after her stupid bit role in Arrow this season, which I ranted about here. Snart also revealed how he and Rory met, which added some depth to their feud. Meanwhile, the blossoming romance between Ray and Kendra was cute, but feels forced. Brandon Routh and Ciara Renee definitely have chemistry, but it just feels unnecessary.
Other Thoughts:
- It's always great to see Stein in action. "That'll teach you to mess with a nuclear physicist!"
- There were so many references to Star Trek and Star Wars in this episode, it made my geek heart flutter. My favourite has to be Gideon dropping the C-3PO "3,720 to 1" quote. I was hoping Kendra would retort with "Never tell me the odds!"
- The Time Masters act like Time Lords, have the same rules as Jedi, and look like Vulcans. Seems legit.
- The Waverider and pirate ship sets were both the same set, right? Oh, bottle episodes.
Rating: 8.4/10 Captain's Logs
Next week, the crew travels back to the 50's, and - Whoa! What's happening to Jax?!
Guess who's coming to dinner?
