Agent Carter: "Hollywood Ending" Review (Season 2, Episode 10)

It's finale time already for Agent Carter! "Hollywood Ending" was an enjoyable and sweet way to end the season (and maybe the series?), but I felt like things were wrapped up way too nicely for our characters. Well, except for one...

First off, it was great to have Howard back again. His entrance was a bit on the cheesy side, scolding Jarvis for hitting Whitney with his car, but it was a hilarious moment so the cheesiness don't matter. But, once again, the finale's best lines and moments came mostly from Howard, making me wish, once again, he was a part of this season a lot more.

Having Wilkes survive his zero matter explosion-thing was kind of weird. I was almost certain he died as a result, but he obviously didn't and was basically a picture of perfect health. No hints towards side effects or lingering abilities. He was just fine, and that that seemed a bit off. It seemed like a cop-out for a good emotional gut-punch for Peggy. But, nevertheless, seeing Wilkes interacting with the rest of the characters was fun, and his final conversation with Peggy was sweet, Seeing our heroes all together and all on the same page was one of the finale's strengths. Even Thompson got some good guy moments.

As for Whitney...what the heck? That season-long build-up of her being this formidable opponent who always seemed to come out on top or be one step ahead turned out to lead to nothing. She was defeated way too easily! She literally walked right into Peg's trap. Isn't she supposed to be wicked genius? I do like how she ended up living. Obviously, the writers have things planned for her if the show returns, even if Whitney's gone bananas and is confined in an insane asylum.

So everything turns out alright. Ana returns home from the hospital, Jarvis gives Peggy "one last ride," Wilkes is now working for Howard, and Sousa and Peggy finally kiss. About time. I did like how that last moment played out, and it felt like a nice place to leave the two lovebirds should the show not be renewed.

But, I mean, if Agent Carter doesn't come back, the season's last scene is going to become even more devastating. Not only does a mysterious figure shoot Thompson, but he also steals the file on Peggy's alleged war crimes. The mystery of the Arena Club pin still hasn't been solved yet either. So, ABC, for the sake of our sanity, renew Agent Carter! Or at least let Netflix do another season. That'd be okay, right?

Other Thoughts:
  • Manfredi fake-interrogating that one guy and then that guy actually turns out to be a traitor was a fun moment. And then Manfredi casually mentions he'll have to kill him, and that made it even funnier.
  • What are Howard and Wilkes working on in Peru? Mystery...
  • The land in Malibu Howard mentions is probably the future location of Tony's mansion, right?
  • The hovercar makes a convenient reappearance!
  • Samberley didn't get any less annoying this week. And that annoys me.
  • If Agent Carter, isn't renewed, maybe they could incorporate the pin into Agents of SHIELD somehow? I mean, the symbol on it looks exactly like the old HYDRA logo.
Rating: 8.4/10 condiments

Agents of SHIELD returns next week! Inhumans! SquidWard! The President! Can't wait!
