My goodness.
I was expecting some news from Comic-Con, but not this much. It was a pretty big year.
So, instead of The Five Bits this week, I'll be recapping all the delicious revelations from Marvel, DC, Star Trek, and a few others.
Let's get into it.
1. Marvel TV News
The TV side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe actually delivered quite a bit at this year's Con.
Let's start with the Netflix shows. First, we got a pretty sweet sizzle reel featuring footage from Daredevil (Season 3 is confirmed), Jessica Jones and even Luke Cage (That hand-breaking bit was BRUTAL), which we also got a teaser trailer for. A teaser for Iron Fist was unveiled, and, and this was pretty surprising, a teaser for The Defenders, which hints at The Hand being the villains for the team-up show.
Agents of SHIELD didn't come out empty-handed either. It turns out that, after a month or so of rumours, Ghost Rider will be in Season 4, played by Gabriel Luna. And yes, we got a teaser.
And finally, we got our first look at FX's X-Men series, Legion. It looks super trippy.
2. DC TV News
Trailers. A few trailers. And some pretty exciting news about Legends of Tomorrow.
We got a Season 3 trailer for The Flash, which gives us a glimpse of the Flashpoint timeline. The Season 5 trailer for Arrow, which reveals some new team members and is looking a lot better than last season. It's still too early to tell for sure. And the Season 2 trailer for Legends of Tomorrow, which doesn't reveal a ton of new footage, but does give us an idea of what the Waverider crew are doing as the new guardians of time. And there's Damien Darhk. Yay!
Speaking of Darhk, he'll be one of the big bads for the second season, alongside (Are you ready for this? Are you?) Malcolm Merlyn, Reverse Flash and Captain Cold, and they'll form...the Legion of Doom. Uh-huh. That's awesome.
In other news, the heroes that will make up the Justice Society were revealed, though not yet cast, and Katie Cassidy will be the latest Arrowverse veteran to get one of those new-fangled "series regular across all three shows" contracts. Oh, and Jonah Hex will be back.
3. Other TV Stuff
The new Star Trek series got a new title: Star Trek: Discovery, and surprise surprise, a teaser:
It was also confirmed that the series will not focus on the Enterprise, but a brand new ship, as seen in the footage.
Then there's the teaser for Series 4 of Sherlock, which, barring Toby Jones' villain, reveals next to nothing but is still really cool.
4. DC Movie News
Yeah. You probably heard a lot about the DC films over the weekend,
We got that glorious shot of the assembled Justice League, all of whom were in attendance at the panel, and we got this now legendary trailer:
I gotta say, the movie looks like it's going to be a ton of fun. It injects some levity into the DCEU, while retaining the grittiness that DC's known for, and I think that's cool. The bad news is we have to wait a year and 4 months for the whole thing. Yippee.
There's a new trailer for Wonder Woman (also great), the final trailer for Suicide Squad (potential spoiler warning) and a new trailer for the hilarious-looking LEGO Batman Movie:
Oh, and speaking of Batman and movies, Ben Affleck is officially, 100% confirmed to direct the Batman solo movie. Still no release date.
You did good, DC. You did good.
5. Marvel Movie News
New Marvel Studios logo and fanfare! Hurrah!
Aaaaand...a new trailer for Doctor Strange! Double hurrah!
The cast for Black Panther was confirmed. Lupita Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan are playing Nakia and Erik Killmonger, repectively, and Danai Gurira has joined the cast as Okoye.
Surtur's in Thor: Raganrok, and it seems as though the film will be borrowing elements from the famous Planet Hulk story.
On to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Keaton is indeed playing the Vulture, Tony Revolori is playing Flash Thompson, Laura Harrier is playing Liz Allan, Zendaya is playing a character called Michelle, and Jacob Batalon is a character called Ned Leeds. Some concept art was also shown:
Ok. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Kurt Russel is playing Star-Lord's father...and it's Ego the Living Planet. Elizabeth Debicki is playing Ayesha, and Sylvester Stallone's in the movie!
But the biggest news of all had to be that, yes, Brie Larson is playing Captain Marvel. Yay!
6. Other Movie Stuff
The trailer for Kong: Skull Island definitely put the movie on my hitlist for next year.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword looks interesting. It looks a lot more light-hearted than I would expect a modern King Arthur movie would be. It's Guy Ritchie? Oh, that's why...
And I'm not a big Harry Potter or JK Rowling fan, but a new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailer was released and it seems pretty interesting. Not entirely sold on it yet, though.
OK. I think that's it. Man, that took a lot out of me.
If you're on the look out for any of the other trailers. film or TV, from Comic-Con, Collider has a great page dedicated to that.
Your regularly scheduled Five Bits will return next week!
