Lots of Rogue One and Justice League news!
1. Rogue One Deets!!
Entertainment Weekly was my best friend this week because of their cover story on Rogue One. Many info nuggets were revealed, including:
The characters' names! The most notable being Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, Jyn's father and a person of interest for both the Rebellion and the Empire. Could the name Galen be a reference to The Force Unleashed?
Also, Darth Vader is confirmed! James Earl Jones is set to once again provide the voice, and apparently the Dark Lord will only have a small role in the film.
Then, of course, there's the awesome reveal of Forest Whitaker's character, which I dedicated a whole blog post to and you can read it here.
Now all we've gotta do is wait till July 15 for our new trailer...
2. Justice League Deets!!
First, Steppenwolf will be the film's villain, and will be accompanied by parademons.
Second, the reports about the footage shown and the quotes from the cast and crew indicate that, yes, Justice League will have a much lighter tone than Batman v. Superman, which is very good.
And third, there's a new synopsis for the film:
"Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions."I'm still holding back a little on getting excited for this movie, not just because I was a bit disappointed by Batman v. Superman, but also because it's, you know, a year and a half away. But this new info is giving me a lot of faith in the film.
3. Steven Spielberg Won't Do Star Wars
Back to Star Wars for a minute. George Lucas' best buddy Steven Spielberg recently declared that he will never direct a Star Wars movie.
The reason isn't because of any ill will towards the franchise, but because it's simply "not his genre" and he'd rather be in the audience, enjoying the film.
It's a good reason (JJ Abrams gave a similar reason for directing, by the way. Just saying.), but I can't help but wonder what a Spielberg-directed Star Wars movie would be like. Probably amazing. But, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I'm sure Rian Johnson, Gareth Edwards, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Colin Trevorrow are more than capable of the job.
4. New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Synposis!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is less than a year away, and we're almost certainly getting some footage and info on it at Comic-Con this coming month. To get us warmed up, Marvel has released a new synopsis for the movie:
"Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mix # Vol. 2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand."Time to put on my speculation cap! The "old foes" turned "new allies" might refer to Nebula or Yondu, and the "characters form the classic comics" may add some fuel to the theories and rumours that the sequel will feature the original, classic Guardians.
Comic-Con's just around the corner, so I think we'll get some confirmations/denials there.
5. The Flash's Season 3 Premiere Title Revealed
"Flashpoint." It's called "Flashpoint." I just figured I'd get right to the point with this one.
But yeah, exciting stuff! Obviously, this definitely means The Flashpoint Paradox will be adapted for Season 3, and I'm really interested to see the show's take on it.
Grant Gustin butchered the reveal with his poor grammar, though.
