Save for one story, this week's Five Bits is Marvel-filled. Or Marvel-lous, if you will. Sorry pun-haters and DC fans,
1. Episode VIII Has Begun Filming
The cameras on Star Wars: Episode VIII have officially begun rolling. To celebrate, Lucasfilm released a very very very short teaser trailer:
Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong'o, Domnhall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis are all set to return. Meanwhile, Benicio Del Toro's (Guardians of the Galaxy) casting was confirmed, and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) and Kelly Marie Tran (various CollegeHumour sketches) were revealed as new cast members. Oh, and Looper director Rian Johnson is, of course, directing.
I'm guessing Del Toro's a new villain, and Dern has to be playing Rey's mother, right? Right?
And so the year-and-10 month wait begins...
December 15th, 2017, here we come!
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Also Begins Filming
Speaking of movies I'm really looking forward to that have begun filming, production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has officially begun, and Marvel commemorated the announcement with the sweet, photo above. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillian, Sean Gunn and Glenn Close are all returning along with Vin Diesel voicing Groot and Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket.
As for new cast members. Kurt Russel (The Hateful Eight) is confirmed and is playing someone with ties to Star-Lord's father (which, let's face it, probably means he is playing Star-Lord's father). Meanwhile, French actress Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) is playing Mantis, and Elizabeth Debecki (Everest) and Chris Sullivan (The Knick) have joined the cast in unknown roles.
All this gives me an excuse to play this amazing song:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release on May 5th, 2017.
3. The (Almost) Full Daredevil Season 2 Trailer is Here!
Marvel and Netflix dropped part 1 (stupid) of the 2 part trailer for the second season of Daredevil. Things are looking mighty grim for The Man Without Fear as he faces off against Frank Castle/The Punisher...
Daredevil Season 2 hits Netflix on March 18th.
4. Stan Lee's Final Canadian Appearance
Marvel overlord Stan Lee has revealed that he will be at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto this fall, and that it will be his last convention visit in Canada.
It's not that he's sick or anything, so you can breathe now. But he is 93 years old and, according to him, he isn't sure if he'll be able to travel so far for much longer. He also wants to make his final appearance as dramatic as possible, which sounds like something Stan Lee would insist upon.
I'll probably be at Fan Expo Canada again this year, so maybe I'll catch a glimpse of ol' Stan during his last visit to Canada.
5. Ryan Reynolds Interviews Hugh Jackman
To promote both Deadpool and Eddie the Eagle, Ryan Reynolds sat down to have a chat with Hugh Jackman.
You guessed it. Hilarity ensues, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine is mocked.
