The Five Bits (Feb. 7-13): Star Trek, Batman v. Superman, HISHE, The Next Doctor, and Guardians Vol. 2

You know the drill. Here are five bits of geek news I found interesting last week...

1.  The New Star Trek TV Series Finds its Showrunner

Let's see how many Star Trek puns I can fit into this bit.

Fuller is no proverbial Klingon to Trek. His first writing credits were for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. His previous time with the comm was running the popular Hannibal TV series.

He's apparently a massive Trekkie, and has been campaigning for a Star Trek revival for a while now, which is certainly a good sign.

Insert puns about Living long and prospering, warp drive, boldly going where no man has gone before, the final frontier, and "KHAAAAAAAANNN!!!!!" here.

2.  The Final Batman v. Superman Trailer is Pretty Great

After a spoiler-y previous trailer, the final trailer for Batman v. Superman has been released. I know this is being thrown around a lot in regards to this trailer, but THEY SHOULD HAVE GAVE US THIS ONE AGES AGO...

Batman beating the living snot outta people, Batman blocking Superman's punch, Superman casually catching a bullet from Batman, Bruce and Diana flirting. There's a lot of money moments in this and definitely gets me excited again. Even though this movie's probably not going to be...great.

3.  How The Force Awakens Should Have Ended

Seen Force Awakens and want a good laugh? Watch this:

"Okaay, BYE!"

4.  Next Doctor Talk

With rumours swirling about that Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who along with Steven Moffat at the end of Series 10, some potential replacements have been spitballed around.

The latest was from Maisie Williams (aka Ashildr from Series 9), who not only said she would take the role if she were asked, but also suggested Idris Elba (aka Heimdall from Thor).

I like the idea, and he's definitely got the charm and gravity of a Doctor, but I'd rather see Elba as James Bond, a role he's also heavily rumoured to take on. Also, there has been zero confirmation from the BBC if Capaldi's leaving, and it's too early for me to start thinking about potential replacements.

5. More Guardians of the Galaxy Bits

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has begun filming, and social media aficionado James Gunn has done some more non-spoiler-y sharing about the sequel.

He revealed the film's production logo (seen above), and confirmed that neither Thanos nor the Infinity Stones will have roles in the Guardians' next adventure.

That's a bit surprising. Not in a bad way. It proves Gunn isn't copying and pasting stuff from the previous film into the sequel, but I;m sure most of us were expecting a bit more Thanos in Guardians 2 after his role in the first film. As for the Infinity Stones, I can see the next one popping up in Doctor Strange, and then maybe Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, or Avengers: Infinity War Part I? Who knows? Kevin Feige. That's who!
