Agent Carter: "Life of the Party" and "Monsters" Reviews (Season 2, Episodes 6 and 7)

We were treated to another Agent Carter double-header this week, and both of the episodes turned out rather great. "Life of the Party" saw the entertaining return of Dottie, and "Monsters" was the episode where, well, all the bad stuff happened,

"Life of the Party"

Right off the bat, I was happy that Peggy's injury from last week wasn't glossed over and instead was the catalyst for this episode's main event.

Dottie's return was a very welcome and scene-stealing one. Any time Dottie was on screen, she was the best part of that scene. It was a hoot to see her work with Peggy and Jarvis and she had a great dynamic with the two of them.

However, all of Dottie's scenes were nothing compared to Whitney's big scene. Holy cow. The way Chadwick was acting around his wife, I could tell the episode was building to something between the two of them, Something bad. And, yeah, it was terrifying. Whitney's presentation of sorts to the Arena Club turned out to be a trap, and she didn't take that well. The way Whitney went from killing her husband plus several of the club members to calmly addressing and taking charge of the remaining men was oh so chilling.

The scene between Peg and Sousa in the van was a bit out of place. It wasn't bad that the fallout between Sousa and Violet was addressed, and Peggy's reaction to the news was fine, but the almost-kiss seemed a bit unnecessary and out-of-character for Peggy. I mean, she recognizes that Sousa breakup was because of her actions and apologizes, then moves in to kiss him. I really hope something interesting is done with this love triangle between Peggy, Wilkes and Sousa because I've had enough of all these love triangles.

Other Thoughts:
  • The conversation between Jarvis and Thompson was a highlight since we've rarely seen these guys with each other.
  • Speaking of Thompson, I'm having trouble determining if I should consider him a good guy or bad guy right now. I like that.
  • "Should I kill him?"
  • Hey! Anna's back! Haven't seen her in a while! Loved the scene with her and Wilkes.
Rating: 8.4/10 rats. STOP KILLING THOSE RATS, WHITNEY!

"Monsters"

"Monsters" is definitely the best entry into Agent Carter's second season so far because all kinds of bad stuff happens to our characters. Yep.

After being captured last week, Dottie finally came face to face with Whitney Frost, and oh my was that intense. So far, Dottie's been a smug and seemingly fearless character, and we saw both those traits when she faced Vernon Masters. But when she faced Whitney, we saw he vulnerable, terrified side. Whitney almost killing Dottie with her powers was pretty terrifying. We got a look at what happens to those Whitney uses her powers on in that moment, and I'd be just as horrified as Dottie if I were in that scenario.

Peggy and Jarvis set out to retrieve Dottie, but ended up getting captured by Whitney themselves and learn she's gone to the Stark mansion to get Wilkes, who's made himself tangible again. Of course, all the worrying Anna did about Jarvis' safety becomes ironic and she gets shot by Whitney.

Jarvis has been mostly comic relief so far this season, so it was great to see something serious happen for him, and I'm sure the gravity of his wife being shot will carry on through to the end of the season. From the way the episode ends, it seems as though Anna will live, but that didn't take away from the heartfelt moment between Peggy and Jarvis in the hospital.

Some other bad stuff happened. Dottie is now out and about again and has already killed a police officer, Wilkes has been taken by Whitney, and Sousa's been replaced in the SSR by Masters. This all leaves our characters in interesting positions, and it will be equally interesting to see where they go as the season ends.

Other Thoughts:
  • I loved the moment where Whitney fakes Masters out by almost touching him. It was so quick, but so subtly hilarious.
  • We get to hear Jarvis' break-in message. Yeah, it's pretty funny.
  • I liked Peggy and Jarvis' conversation in the car, but they stopped for like 5 minutes in the middle of the road! That's unsafe, guys!
Rating: 9.1/10 Hungarian feasts

Next week, it's another double-header! *blows party horn*
