After 6 months of waiting, we've finally got a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And it is just a bundle of pure joy and epicness. If physically hugging a trailer were possible, I would hug this one.
Awesome, right?
1.) Rey on Jakku
(source)
The trailer opens with a focus on Rey (Daisy Ridley) and her life of scavenging on the desert planet Jakku. The clips featuring her exploring the downed Star Destroyer (presumably the same one from the previous trailer) were pretty cool, but I loved the shot of her watching a ship take off. There's a look of both sadness and optimism on Rey's face. She wants to leave the planet and go explore, not unlike Luke in A New Hope. I have a feeling this'll be her "Binary Sunset" scene. Poor Rey.
2.) Boom goes the TIE Fighter!

(source)
When the trailer turns its focus to Finn (John Boyega), the stormtrooper deserter, we see how he finds himself on Jakku. This probably confirms he's the one piloting the out of control TIE from the last trailer. This shot just took my breath away. It's so cool. What strikes me as pretty scary is that there's no big ball of fire, or that the TIE fighter isn't in a million pieces. It's just falling, and it's definitely not in any condition to fly anywhere ever again. It's going to crash. HARD. Poor Finn.
3.) Kylo messes with Poe's head
(source)
We get a hint towards Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) plans. He's gonna finish what Darth Vader started. Does that mean wiping out the Jedi for good? Does it mean finishing the ultimate superweapon as glimpsed in the poster above? Hmmm.
The shots of his confrontation with Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) looks to be one of the film's more intense scenes. Is he creating a vision? Giving him an absolutely splitting headache? What does he want Poe to say or do? Poe's scream of anguish is also pretty bloodcurdling. Poor Poe.
4.) "It's true. All of it."
(source)
One of the exciting things the trailer shows is that Han Solo, the skeptic who mocked the very idea of the Force in A New Hope, is now a "believer," so to speak. It's a concept that fits well into his character arc. He's seen this stuff with his own eyes now; he'd be an idiot to poo-poo it again. From his tone, he's also taking all this very seriously now.
5.) The Knights of Ren?
(source)
JJ Abrams revealed in an interview this past summer that Kylo Ren is part of an order of Dark Side wielders known as the Knights of Ren. He wouldn't go into detail as to who these guys are, but he did say that "Ren" is a title similar to "Darth," and that the Knights aren't Sith. This is presumably our first look at the Knights assembled, with Kylo Ren as their leader. Maybe? The rain and lightning definitely adds some drama and sinisterness. Poor whoever's across from these guys in this scene.
6.) Funkytown
6.) Funkytown
There's a brief yet memorable shot of Han, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 arriving at a bizarre-looking building guarded by a tall red droid (a nod to Bad Robot, perhaps?). My money's on this being the hideout of Max von Sydow's rumoured Collector-esque character. Either that or it's the entrance to the Resistance base and one of their leaders is just really big into flags.
7.) Finn vs. Kylo
| Hey you know what,dude? Let's be frie-SYKE! |
(source)
The money shot of the trailer is the final shot. A nervous Finn taking on an unmasked and dangerous Kylo Ren. No offense Finn, but Kylo's probably gonna mess you up. Or at least give you a couple cuts. Or a lot. Unless this is a vision, then you're good.
Are you as excited as I am about The Force Awakens? Got your tickets yet? I sure did.
December 18th can't come faster.
