40 Films, 40 Degrees Progress Report and Some Other Jazz

616466

Heh. Jazz.

So school’s been quite busy lately. I’m in the midst of two short film productions, serving as script supervisor on one and second assistant camera on the other, and that’s on top of some of the other schoolwork on my to-do list.

Rather than throwing up a pity party post about my lack of posts, lack of time, yadda yadda yadda, I’d put this together: a short post about a few things of interest to me over the past week or so, like…

  • A progress report on 40 Films, 40 Degrees…
  • A few trailers…
  • And a particularly good episode of Legends of Tomorrow

If any, or all, of this is of interest to you as well, you’re invited to this glorious “stuff” party. Yay!

1.  40 Films, 40 Degrees Progress Report

First10

This lil’ challenge of mine is running along rather smoothly. As you can see from the above image, I’m 10 films in, and I said in this post that I’d try to provide a progress report for every 10 films…so here we are.

Here’s the 6 films I watched since my first post:

  • The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Philip Seymour Hoffman)
  • The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 (Josh Hutcherson)
  • The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 (Liam Hemsworth)
  • Like Crazy (Jennifer Lawrence)
  • The Theory of Everything (Felicity Jones)
  • Stardust (Charlie Cox)

To read my thoughts on each film, clicking the image above should take you to the list’s page on Letterboxd.

2.  Trailers for Baby Driver and Doctor Who

At long last, Edgar Wright gifted us with, not one, but two trailers for his new film Baby Driver.

The film premiered at South by Southwest this past weekend, and it’s been getting a ton of rave reviews. Looks like Mr. Wright has another gem for his filmography.

Also, we got the full trailer for Series 10 of Doctor Who. HYPE.

3.  Some TV Updates

Did you see this week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow? Dude…that was some good stuff. Some great character drama mixed with some great humour. Did I mention that Stein and Mick get to sing the Banana Boat song? Gold. Legends has, in my opinion, improved so much since the season started. Heck, I’m enjoying it more than both The Flash and Arrow. I have really high hopes for the final 3 episodes.

But Legends’ only competition at the moment right now is Legion. Freaking Legion. The show is getting more and more insane with each episode, and it’s never feeling gimmicky or leaving me confused (at least not in the bad way). Last week’s episode was a doozy, and, like Legends, I have high hopes for the final 3 episodes. I’m looking forward to talking about the first season as a whole once it’s completed. And, yes, it’s coming back for a second season.

Iron Fist is getting a severe bashing, isn’t it? I find the whole “Danny Rand should be Asian” controversy to be nonsense, but apparently that’s not the reason behind the negativity. According to a few of the reviews I’ve read, Iron Fist tends to focus more on the corporate and relationship drama over the martial arts action. But, it should be noted that most, if not all, of the reviews are based on the first 6 episodes, which were the only episodes screened for journalists. So…maybe there’s hope that the 7 other episodes will pick things back up? Maybe. I’m going in with an open mind. 14% on Rotten Tomatoes seems a bit harsh, though.

And, yeah, Doctor Who’s back in a month. That’s never bad news.

4.  BONUS Earworm

I recently rewatched Beauty and the Beast because I might be interested in seeing the remake with some friends.

Long story short, I’ve had “Be Our Guest”  stuck in my head for the past few days. So, I figured I’d get it stuck in your heads too. Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
