Just another slice of fried gold.
Note: After a bit of philosophical and metaphysical contemplation, I've decided to make The Five Bits a MONTHLY thing rather than a WEEKLY thing. At least for the time being. I'm just finding it hard to write these on a weekly basis on top of keeping up with school. So, expect the next edition to be at the beginning of November and so forth. Thanks for the patience!
1. Is a Portal movie on the way?
To answer that question, it looks like it.
At a press event for his new TV series Westworld, JJ Abrams revealed he will be meeting with Valve (the creators of Portal) that an announcement concerning his seemingly stuck-in development Portal movie is not far away.
I love the two Portal games, and Portal 2 is one of the best video games I've ever played. This news does excite me, but I've always felt like a Portal film would be near-impossible to crack. The puzzle-solving aspect of the game is a vital part of the story, and I'm not sure how well it would translate to screen, at least in a faithful way. Anyways, certainly keeping an eye on this.
2. Doctor Strange is in Infinity War
This might be a bit of a no-brainer, but it looks like Doctor Strange is going to be in Avengers: Infinity War, as confirmed by Stephen Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Strange will join forces with the Avengers and probably the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos in 2018. Exciting stuff!
I think that's all I can say on that. Move along.
3. CW DC Crossover Villains Revealed!
The much-hyped crossover between Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl has found its antagonists in The Dominators.
From what I could find about them, the Dominators are a group of various alien races who have banded together to take over Earth. In the comic story they featured in, the superheroes of Earth banded together to stop them.
It sounds like an ambitious villainous force for TV, but I don't care who the villains are as long as the crossover is better than the Superhero Fight Club 2.0 the CW released this week. Truly cringe-worthy.
4. Arrow Episode 100 Teases
Speaking of the CW DC crossover, the Arrow portion of the event is currently in production. The episode will also be Arrow's 100th episode, and will serve as a "celebration" of the series so far, as well as continue the crossover story. That's a full plate.
Stephen Amell has been teasing the episode with some photos from the set including a picture of the Green Arrow and Supergirl side by side (see above), and...and this is very exciting...a picture of him and Deathstroke on a park bench.
So...Deathstroke's back? Will Manu Bennett be the one under the mask or will they chump out and have it just be a stunt double? I'm really hoping it's the former. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Deathstroke story is the best thing the show's ever done and it's a shame they haven't revisited the character or invited Bennett back since Season 3. But...this has me crossing my fingers. Don't fail this episode, writers!
5. Pirates 5 Teaser!
Finally, the teaser for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales dropped over the weekend, and it's pretty great...
I really like how the teaser refrains from shoeing us Jack or any of the other returning characters and just focuses on the teasing part of the teaser trailer. We do get a good look at Javier Bardem's Captain Salazar, though.
Colour me hyped. I'm in the mood to rewatch the first four movies now.
