Four "Star Wars" Spin-Off Movie Ideas

I'm writing this the day before the new trailer for Rogue One trailer debuts, but you're most likely reading it after it's been released. Lucky.

Anywho, out of anticipation for the new trailer and, you know, the actual movie, I've decided to give you my pitches for 4 ideas I have for future Star Wars spin-offs. Some are very likely to happen, others are more pipe dreams, really.

1. Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story

A Boba Fett movie is all but confirmed to be happening...eventually. It's believed that the spin-off film Josh Trank was working on before being unceremoniously booted from it was indeed a Boba Fett-related project. But, that's not confirmed. Or is it? Nah, it's not.

I've actually thought a bit about what a Boba Fett film would be about, and I have a pretty solid idea. Listen closely, Lucasfilm Story Group!

The film takes place not long after the events of Return of the Jedi, and we learn that there's a massive gap in the criminal underworld after the death of Jabba the Hutt. This opportunity to seize power attracts the attention of many crime organizations, like the Guavians and Kanjiklub from The Force Awakens. So this huge crime war breaks out, and somehow Fett, having escaped from the Sarlaac and is laying low, finds himself trapped in Level 1313 of the Coruscant Underworld with brigades of these criminals. They really piss him off in some way, and he has to get back into action and kick some thug butt to escape and get his revenge.

It's a bit like Daredevil Season 2's Punisher storyline meets the abandoned Star Wars: 1313 game from a few years back, which was going to focus on Fett, meets Snowpiercer. It should be put together like a Western, since Boba strikes me as a very "silent cowboy" kind of guy. It can be dark and a bit brooding, but not so much that it compromises the fun of Star Wars

If the actual Boba Fett movie uses an entirely different story, but retains the things which define the character, I'll be happy. I just really want a really cool Boba Fett movie.

2. Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story

Much like Boba Fett, an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off is all but confirmed to be in development. I think. And Ewan MacGregor continually expresses interest in making a comeback, so I think it's inevitable.

The film would probably be set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, following an exiled Obi-Wan and his escapades on Tatooine. Some have suggested that the film should see him fighting crime on Tatooine, but I'd suggest something different.

When I was younger, I read the first in a series of novels called The Last of the Jedi, which was about Obi-Wan leaving Tatooine in search of Ferus Olin, a former Jedi now on the run from the Empire. Perhaps the movie could tackle a story like that. Obi-Wan going on a planet-hopping quest in search of surviving Jedi all while evading Imperial forces, Inquisitors and Vader himself. They can't meet again at this point though, because continuity.

Or, and this is a big stretch, maybe the movie could feature the last confrontation between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. Cool, yes. But for general audiences who haven't seen The Clone Wars or Rebels, it may be difficult to explain how Maul survived his fall in The Phantom Menace and recap his hijinks during the aforementioned TV shows. Impossible? Uhhhh, maybe not.

Anywho, Obi-Wan film. Get on it.

3. Crimson Empire: A Star Wars Story

Crimson Empire was an Expanded Universe comic that told the story of Kir Kanos, a former Imperial guard, and his quest for vengeance against those in the Empire who've wronged him. There were three chapters in the story, and I've only listened to the audio drama adaptation of the first. Buy, boy did I love it. Which is why I'd love to see it brought into the new canon somehow.

It's set after Return of the Jedi, so it could potentially serve as the bridge between that movie and The Force Awakens. We'd get to see what kind of situation the Rebels and the Imperials are in after the Battle of Endor, and maybe get hints toward the formation of the First Order and the rise of Snoke.

And yeah, it's also getting to see some darn cool Imperial guardsmen action.

A movie would be fantastic, but I think a TV series would work as well. Or a Netflix series. Any of those will do. I just would love to see this story on screen.

4. The Old Republic: A Star Wars Story

I find it a bit surprising that the new Star Wars canon hasn't really touched the "Old Republic" era of the timeline, given the immense success of the video games (I haven't played the MMO, but I'm slowly making my way through Knights of the Old Republic on Steam). It's basically an open book now. Why not explore it?

Because I'm not the most avid fan of that era (no hate, just not much interest), I can't really rattle off any specific examples of stories I'd like to see adapted.

Oh, I know! Just give me a movie that's like those cinematic trailers that were released a few years back!

Like this one:

Man, it's years later and those still hold up.

An Old Republic film, if successful, would also open up a new door in Star Wars storytelling. Can you imagine if eventually we knew everything that happened in this universe? From the origins of the Jedi and the Sith all the way to where we are now with The Force Awakens? Daunting? Yeah. Exciting? Yeah.

So those are my four Star Wars spin-off ideas. I'm sure there are others I've had that I've completely forgotten about, so maybe I'll do another one of these as we get closer to Rogue One.

Feel free to leave your spin-off ideas below.
