The Five Bits (May 8-14): Black Panther, Marvel TV (again), Supergirl, Episode VIII, and Assassin's Creed

Kind of a slow news week, but as long as there is news, there will be Five Bits.

1.  Black Panther's Cast Grows

After a pretty badass first impression in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel is getting the gears churning for T'Challa's solo outing.

Lupita Nyong'o (Maz in The Force Awakens) is in talks for a role, while Michael B. Jordan is confirmed and is rumoured to be a villain. Fun fact: Jordan is the second actor who previously played the Human Torch to appear in the MCU. The first was Chris Evans.

Anyway, Black Panther is due to be released in February 2018. Creed director Ryan Coogler is at the helm. Chadwick Boseman will of course be back, and it seems likely that Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman will reprise their roles as Ulysses Klaue (from Age of Ultron) and Everett Ross (from Civil War), respectively.

2.  Bad News for Marvel TV

The rumblings of some trouble for Agent Carter and Most Wanted that I talked about last week have unfortunately been proven true. ABC has cancelled Agent Carter and has decided to pass on Most Wanted.

Given the cliffhanger-ish way Agent Carter's second season ended, I'm sure Marvel will find some way to finish tie up those loose ends, whether it be through a third season on Netflix or continuing the story with a comic book run.

As for Most Wanted, I wasn't entirely sure Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter were characters that could lead their own series, but it's still a shame that we'll never get to see if they actually could. Will they return to Agents of SHIELD? Who knows?

3.  Supergirl Heads to the CW

Supergirl has been renewed for a second season. But...PLOT TWIST! The show will move from CBS to the CW, the home of Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

It'll be interesting how Supergirl's move will affect those shows. Will they find a way to smash the two seemingly separate universes together, or continue to keep them separate and just have Oliver and Barry jump through a wormhole whenever a crossover happens? If they do combine them, CW's DCTV universe will already be miles ahead of the cinematic one. I mean, it's got Green Arrow, The Flash, Firestorm, Atom, Constantine and then some, and now Supergirl might be part of that universe. Cool.

I haven't watched Supergirl yet, but I'm planning to over the summer. I hear it gets better as it goes?

4.  Star Wars: Episode VIII Bits

Two little, teeny-weeny news bits about Episode VIII emerged last week.

First, rumour has it that Tom Hardy has filmed a cameo for the movie. Much like Daniel Craig in The Force Awakens, Hardy will be playing a stormtrooper. I'm not going to say anything more, but if you want to know what his cameo will apparently involves him doing, follow this link. (Hint: It's...weird-ish)  But, remember...it's a rumour. Pinch of salt!

Under the "factual" category, John Boyega says the movie will be "darker" and "bigger" than The Force Awakens. With Rian Johnson directing, that definitely seems plausible. It seems like they're going down the Empire Strikes Back road again, which is in no way a bad thing.

5.  The Assassin's Creed Trailer Has The Assassins and the Creeds.

To wrap things up, here's the first trailer for the Assassin's Creed movie:

My quick reaction: The visuals are very impressive, but I hate the Kanye West music.

I'm very interested in seeing this, even though I've hardly played the games. I actually own the first one on Steam. I started playing it, but, and I kid you not, I got really frustrated with the tutorial. THE TUTORIAL. But in my defence, the controls for that game are really dumb. Also, I suck at most video games.

Assassin's Creed is out on December 21. Just 5 days after Rogue One. Wise move?
