Sheesh. That was a slow news week. It was so slow, I decided to use a story from last week. Anyway, I'm still happy with what I found, so let's get to it...
1. Sherlock Holmes 3 Is Definitely Maybe Happening!
So late last month, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that filming on the third outing in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes series could begin this fall. Now, producer Joel Silver has revealed that that is indeed a strong possibility. Apparently, Downey, Jude Law and Ritchie are all free,
The first Sherlock Holmes film is one of my favourite films ever (No, seriously), and the second film, A Game of Shadows, is also, but not as, good. So, needless to say, I find this very exciting. Hopefully we get another deduction beatdown.
2. There's Gonna be Another Garfield Movie
Like I said, slow news week.
Alcon Entertainment is the latest owner of the Garfield film rights, and is already planning for a full CG animated film based on the lasagna-loving cat.
I like the idea of it being fully-animated, but is there enough interest for another Garfield movie two poorly received attempts and 10 years later? Time will tell.
3. Chris Evans wants in on Spider-Man: Homecoming
Robert Downey Jr. is already set to appear in Peter Parker's first MCU solo film, but what about the other side of the Civil War coin?
Well, Chris Evans has expressed interest in having some sort of appearance in the film. And it would be cool to see him make amends with Spidey, and possibly Tony, and have some sort of part to play.
Anyways, Homecoming is out in July 2017.
4. Joss Whedon and the Female Avengers
Joss Whedon's been pretty open about how his experience directing Age of Ultron stressed him out on a ginormous level, spurring him into claiming he's pretty much done with the MCU.
Recently, his attitude seems to have warmed up a bit. Last week, he talked about how he'd be interested in helming a female-driven Avengers film, which, let's face it, would be pretty freakin' awesome.
It'd probably something Marvel would consider down the road (aka post-Infinity War). But even now, there's a good handful of options for characters. Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Jessica Jones, Daisy Johnson, Mockingbird. You can get Pepper Potts suited up as Rescue. If you throw Captain Marvel in there? Yes.
Listen, Marvel. With or without Joss Whedon, make this happen!
5. Production Begins on Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk
The cameras have apparently started rolling on Christopher Nolan's next film, Dunkirk, a WWII-era action-thriller.
Nolan is once again shooting with a mix of 65mm and IMAX film and the shoot will take place in France, Holland, Britain and Los Angeles. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, James D'Arcy, Harry Styles (Yes. That Harry Styles), and newcomer Fionn Whitehead are starring.
Nolan hasn't disappointed me yet, so consider me excited, The film's out next July.
Noah
