The Five Bits (May 15-21): Ragnarok, Agents of SHIELD, DC TV, DC Movies, and Star Trek

A lot of cool tidbits were revealed last week, so I had trouble whittling them all down to just 5. Let's go!

1.  Thor: Ragnarok Casting Deets!

Marvel revealed some of the new and returning cast members for Thor's third solo outing, and hoo boy is this cast impressive.

Mark Ruffalo is 100% confirmed to be back as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Cate Blanchett has been officially confirmed to be playing Hela. Jeff Goldblum (Yeah, you read that right) is playing the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (Creed) is playing Valkyrie, and Karl Urban (Bones in the new Star Trek films) is playing Skurge.

As for returning Thor cast members, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston will of course be back, and so will Idris Elba (Heimdall) and Anthony Hopkins (Odin). Meanwhile, Jaimie Alexander has hinted that she will back as Sif.

The film's out on November 3, 2017.

2.  Agents of SHIELD Travels in Time! (Sort of)

As SHIELD begins work on its fourth season, ABC has announced that the show will occupy a new timeslot when it returns. The Tuesday airdate remains in tact, but the show will air at 10:00pm rather than 9:00pm.

The reason for this, as revealed by the network at Upfronts last week, is to allow the show to get darker. But many fans, including, kind of, myself, are fearing that this could be the writing on the wall for our beloved spy show. The ABC 10:00pm slot is nicknamed the "deathslot," since many shows in the past have aired at that time just before being cancelled. Yikes.

Of course, none of that is correct unless we get an official announcement from Marvel or ABC, so don't start losing hope yet!

3.  It's Gonna Happen...

Also from Upfronts, Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW, has confirmed that we'll be getting a massive four-way crossover between Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and CW newbie Supergirl this year.

Holy moley, the possibilities are endless for that, right? I mean, there can be more time travel thrown in the mix with Legends, and some universe-hopping with Supergirl. Man, just thinking about this gets me pumped.

Can't wait for December.

4.  The DCEU Gets Tidied Up

The negative critical and financial response to Batman v. Superman seems to have spurred Warner Bros. to shake things up for its DC Cinematic Universe.

The studio has appointed DC Chief Content Officer Geoff Johns (pictured above) and Jon Berg, a producer at Warner Brothers, as the men in charge of the upcoming DC films. Think of them as what Kevin Feige is to Marvel.

It's really good to see Warner Brothers finally do some shuffling with its DC stuff, since it's become obvious that Zack Snyder just...wasn't the man for the job. Anyway, yeah, exciting. Hopefully the two can make sure Justice League turns out a lot better than Dawn of Justice.

5.  Star Trek Trailers Galore!!!

We got, not one, but two Star Trek related trailers last week! Hurrah!

First, CBS released the first teaser for the new series. It doesn't reveal anything, save for a totally wicked logo.

Then we finally got the second trailer for Star Trek Beyond. I was never a hater on the first trailer, but I do think this one is a lot better.

This should further help pass the time until Rogue One in December.
