Agents of SHIELD: "Failed Experiments" Review (Season 3, Episode 19)

(NOTE: Yes, I'm a bit behind schedule right now, so I'm writing this one really quickly. Sorry if it's a bit on the short side)

"Failed Experiments" pushed this season's darker storyline further. It had its moments, but I don't consider it as strong as the previous two episodes.

There wasn't much in the first-half hour that totally hooked me into what was going on. That's not the say there was nothing good about it. I liked Coulson and Mack's argument about Daisy, and I liked Daisy's conversations with Hive. But a lot of scenes between characters seemed to be retracing steps that had only happened just earlier in the episode. The team discussing Daisy and wether or not she's totally under Hive's thumb, Hive talking to Daisy about her past with SHIELD. It was a bit too much build-up to the arrival of the Kree.

Chloe Bennet was on her A-game this week. I mentioned this in my last review, but I like how those Hive has taken control of aren't mindless zombies. They're still themselves, but with Hive's agenda, and this episode made that very clear through Daisy. Her reunion with Mack was super-tense, then emotional as she realized he ain't havin' none of her crap and then proceeded to beat him up. With Daisy offering up her blood for Hive's experiment, it makes me wonder whether Daisy can really be redeemed or forgiven by her team and herself after all this. Maybe she's the one who dies in her vision?

The part the Kree played was brief, but memorable. They were a force to be reckoned with by Hive and his agents, and that one Kree even killed Alecia. Hive going toe-to-toe with a Kree warrior was pretty cool, as was Daisy breaking the limbs of the one she was fighting.

Overall, like I said, this episode was a bit of a dip in quality in my opinion. But having seen Civil War at the time of writing, I'm obviously very interested in how the events of the movie will affect the show.
