Gotta admit, almost forgot to review this week's episode. Been kinda busy, but I'm not busy right now so let's get to it!
"Parting Shot" saw the departure of Adrianne Palicki's Bobbi Morse and Nick Blood's Lance Hunter, but also served as a set-up for their spin-off show Most Wanted. Because in the MCU, the end is never the end.
The flashforward sequences featuring Hunter and Bobbi in prison were intriguing. The scenes allowed Palicki and Blood to flex their acting chops for a bit and I think both did terrific jobs. The scenes set in present day weren't as interesting, at least for the first half of the episode. As cool as it was to see an episode with a very contained setting, it was just your average SHIELD fare. Secret missions, talking over earpieces, undercover shenanigans. I found Malick's plot, and his alliance with the Russian delegate from the previous episode, to be confusing at times. Powers Boothe was still great though.
As the episode got tot he climax, I started to enjoy it a lot more. The Bobbi, Daisy vs. Shadowy-man scene was cool, and it was surprising to see Darkforce introduced so soon after playing a major role in Agent Carter.
It's after this that the reasons for Bobbi and Hunter being arrested become apparent. Coulson's scene with the two in the cell was probably the best of the episode, and I thought the reason for the two leaving the team was much more creative than having them go on the run or something of that ilk.
And then there's that goodbye scene in the bar. Okay, look, it was a very sweet, aww-inducing farewell. But...it went on for way too long. I'm going to miss having Hunter and Bobbi with the SHIELD team, but the way the scene was put together, you'd think they weren't coming back ever. They're just going to another show, and I'm sure there's plenty of room for crossover. Because this is the MCU. Crossover's its middle name. I think. Or is it Cinematic? Aaah, whatever.
Other Thoughts:
- Malick has a daughter! 20 bucks says she gets into some sort of romantic thing with Hive. Unfortunately.
- No Lincoln this week. Like, he wasn't mentioned or anything. Weird.
- Bobbi asking for and describing the cheeseburger made me want a cheeseburger too. Does SHIELD subliminally advertise for McDonald's?
- With all the hype over mushroom soup in this week, I'd better try some. Hunter's recipe of course.
Rating: 7.6/10 Russian keyboards
Next week, Daisy takes on an anti-Inhuman group known as the Watchdogs...
