Quick Pontifications on “The Defenders”

defendersSDCCposter

Nothing like a super pretentious-sounding title to kick things off, huh?

After 2 years and 5 seasons of television, we finally got Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all together for The Defenders. Seeing as the how the first season was only 8 episodes long as opposed to the traditional 13, I finished it lickety-split and there’s some stuff I’d like to talk about so here we go...

30 down, 10 to go!

It took me, like, a month-and-a-half for some reason, but I finally checked off another 10 films.

Vacation and the 13th Doctor

jodie_doctor_who

(NOTE: I wrote this blurb last Wednesday night, and tried to program the blogging software I use to post it the following morning. Turns out, technology sucks. I’m back from the said vacation now so, with apologies, here’s the unedited, original write-up. And I might as well include a link to the trailer for the Christmas special as well, huh?)

I’m out of town this weekend, so I thought I’d quickly talk about that little Doctor Who announcement from Sunday.

So yeah, Doctor Who has its first female Doctor in Jodie Whittaker, and I’m all for it. It’s the energetic, new direction I think the show was in need of. It makes sense considering it’s been firmly, firmly, established now that Time Lords can change gender during regeneration (I.e.. the Master/Missy, the General). It opens the door to a lot of fun and interesting stories and themes and dynamics and AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

Am I, admittedly, still a bit wary of it all? Sure. But it has nothing to do with gender or anything. It’s uncharted territory for the entire series, and with this whole new Doctor we get a whole new showrunner in Chris Chibnall. But one of Doctor Who’s fundamental themes is change, so let’s all go in with an open, optimistic mind. There’s also the fact that I haven’t seen anything Jodie Whittaker has been in, but Broadchurch is on Netflix and it’s been in my queue for like 2 years, so now’s probably high time for me to sit down and watch it.

Anyways, I’m writing this at 10pm at tonight so that’s all for now. I’m sure there’ll be a lot more to talk about concerning the new Doctor once we learn more about Series 11.

Ranking the 10 Doctor Who Finales

doctor-who-the-doctor-falls-photo001-1498749558057_1280w

Not dead!

Series 10 of Doctor Who ended last weekend with a roller coaster of a finale. There were moments of sheer brilliance and moments where I was like “Wait, what?” Quality-wise, it was very much what one might expect from a NuWho finale, and that got me thinking about the past 9 finales and where “The World Enough and Time” and “The Doctor Falls” would fit among them.

It’s ranking time!

I’m another 10 films into this thing, so let’s recap:

The Big Season-Ender Roundup 2017

ShowLogos
That time of the year again, huh?

For this year’s roundup, I thought I’d throw in Legion just for kicks and giggles. I didn’t get a chance to talk about it when it finished up, and I still really want to talk about it.

Also, one major difference from last year’s roundup is that, instead of doing the top 5 episodes of each season, I’d talk about my favourite and least favourite episodes. We’ll see how it plays out.
I’m going in order of when the finales aired, so up first is…
